for everyone

When choosing the right outerwear, remember this mantra: dry = comfortable. The best gear not only protects us from the elements, but also manages moisture and maintains proper heat balance to keep us dry, which is also an important element in staying warm. When we sweat, the perspiration that stays on our skin cools us down.  Breathable outerwear allows that moisture to evaporate rather than trapping it against the skin. This helps maintain a comfortable body temperature and keep the level of heat lost equal to the level of heat produced, which keeps us dry, and comfortable, from the inside out.

What is GORE-TEX® Fabric?

GORE-TEX® fabrics are created by laminating our GORE-TEX® membrane to high-performance textiles, then sealing them with an innovative solution for guaranteed waterproof protection.

Membrane

The GORE-TEX® membrane is the heart of all GORE-TEX® products. It contains over 9 billion microscopic pores square inch. These pores are 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet, but 700 times larger than a water vapor molecule, which makes the GORE-TEX® membrane completely waterproof from the outside, while allowing perspiration to escape from the inside. An oleophobic, or oil-hating, substance is integrated into the membrane, preventing the penetration of body oils and insect repellent that could otherwise affect the membrane.

Laminates

To construct a GORE-TEX® laminate, we bond the GORE-TEX® membrane between high-performance fabrics that are extremely breathable. All GORE-TEX® fabrics are waterproof, windproof, and breathable. However, there are many different outer fabrics and fabric constructions available so that you can choose what's most important to you: weight, texture, abrasion resistance, and so on.

Seam Sealing

Seams and stitching are essential aspects of a garment's construction. Unfortunately, they compromise the water and liquid protective properties of the fabric: seams and needle holes may be small, but they will still leak. That's why they must be completely sealed.

For absolute waterproofness and liquid resistance, our products rely on GORE-SEAM® TAPE. This unique tape, backed by reliable Gore equipment and know-how, ensures that every seam and tiny stitch hole is sealed.

Just as we constantly improve our fabrics, we continue to innovate taping and sealing technologies to improve garments by reducing their weight, refining their drape, and increasing their durability.

How does it work?

Subject other technical fabrics to hard use or frequent washing and they may quickly lose effectiveness. Not GORE-TEX® fabrics. Each one is designed to be durably waterproof, windproof, and breathable and maintain its performance for the life of the end product.

Waterproof

The microporous structure of the GORE-TEX® membrane is what makes GORE-TEX® fabrics completely waterproof. Each microscopic pore is about 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water, which means no external moisture - from rain to snow to that puddle you just stepped in - can penetrate the membrane.

Windproof

Shivering? It could be the windchill effect. This occurs when cold air penetrates your clothing, robbing heat from your body's sensitive microclimate. To keep you comfortable and protected in the windiest conditions, the GORE-TEX® membrane has been engineered to provide an impenetrable wind shield. Your product breathes, but wind stays out.

Breathable

The pores in the GORE-TEX® membrane are 700 times bigger than a water vapor molecule, so perspiration can easily evaporate through and you can stay dry from the inside out. Breathability is an important component of comfort when you are active.

Blog EntryMerawat jaket Gore-tex kesayangan andaFeb 21, '08 8:45 PM
for everyone

Dah mahal-mahal beli jaket gore-tex tapi ngga bisa merawatnya sayang banget, nih berikut tip cara merawat jaket berbahan Gore-tex, tapi berhubung lagi males terjemahin terjemahin sendiri ya.

It makes absolutely no sense to purchase expensive Gore-Tex® apparel if you don't know how to keep your apparel in great shape. Take care of your Gore-Tex® apparel and your Gore-Tex® apparel will take care of you. The following are some helpful hints and tips to help you maintain your Gore-Tex® apparel.

All Gore-Tex® apparel should be kept clean to maximize the efficiency of the apparel. Always read the instructions (which are sewn into any Gore-Tex garments) and follow the instructions carefully. If you treat your Gore-Tex® apparel with care, your apparel will last for a long time and will be efficient as the first day you purchased it.

Washing Instructions:
Most Gore-Tex® apparel can be machine washed in warm water with powdered detergent and tumble dry on medium heat. If you are washing kayaking apparel that has rubber gaskets (drysuit, paddling jacker, etc.), you should wash the apparel in a bathtub. Wash the drysuit every once in a while with special soap made specifically for Gore-Tex or the drysuit. Never wash the drysuit with any other soaps or chemicals that were not specifically made for a drysuit.

Leaks & Water Resistant:
If you notice the inside of the apparel becoming wet, there might be a leak with the Gore-Tex®. You might want to call Gore-Tex® or the apparel manufacturer directly to try to find out what can be done to fix the leak. The leak might located at a seam or it might be due to the Durable Water Repellent (DWR) that is on the outer surface of the Gore-Tex®. As the Gore-Tex® becomes older and the apparel is exposed to the elements, the DWR can start to wear off. You should launder the Gore-Tex® according to the instructions that come with the apparel and iron it using a warm steam setting. Eventually you might have to use the spray-on or wash-in water-repellant treatment to keep the Gore-Tex® waterproof. There are a number of wash-in products available for Gore-Tex®. Just make sure it is the right product for your kind of apparel and use the wash-in product as a last resort. Correctly washing the apparel and ironing the apparel will restore the water-resistance and breathability. Always check with the manufacturer of the apparel and Gore-Tex® directly before using any water-resistant product.

Make Sure That The Product Is Not Defective:
If the apparel feels heavy, appears wet on the inside, occurs condensation on the inside, etc., it might only be due to the DWR coating being warn off. Always try to restore the DFR by washing and ironing or washing in the water-resistant first before considering replacing the apparel.

Salt Water:
Contrary to popular belief, the salt water does not alter or harm the Gore-Tex® fabric. Always wash the Gore-Tex® with a hose or in a bath tub after every use and the Gore-Tex® will last for a long time.

Stains:
You may spray the stain with an aerosol pre-wash treatment. Wash the apparel immediately in warm water with powdered soaps. If the stain is tough, consult with Gore-Tex® directly before attempting to remove the stain.

Dry Cleaning:
If the Gore-Tex® is combined with silk, wool, etc., the apparel should only be dry cleaned. Do not dry clean any down apparel as the down feathers insulating properties will be removed.

Have fun backpacking and don't forget to take care of your Gore-Tex® when you return from paddling.
